The familiar Statue of Liberty assumption that the United States is willing to help the rest of the world by [Giving] me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free is an aspiration that has developed in not just calling out to immigrants, but this ideal calls out to all of us in the increasingly oppressive military-industrialized society in which we live. The Pacifica Foundation rightly stands for the American ideals of Freedom, Truth, and Justice. And one more thing: Peace. If elected, I shall strive to uphold these ideals.
As a pacifist and the son of an undocumented immigrant, I have over the years been involved in political activism. My main purpose for seeking an elected position on KPFK’s Local Station Board is to promote programming decisions as they relate to the Pacifica Foundation’s Mission, which encourages an outlet for community creativity, cultural harmony, and valuable news distribution that is normally not broadcast through traditional news media sources. A secondary purpose, also noted in Pacifica’s Mission, is to support decisions related to the self-sustainability of the Pacifica Foundation and its radio stations.
