Our Blog

Hello. My name is Mike A. Lewis. I am running as a Staff Candidate for the Local Station Board for KPFT 90.1FM. I ran for the LSB in 2013 as a Listener Candidate. For the past year I have filled a LSB position of a resigned member. The LSB voted to have me fill the position. I thank everyone that voted for me in 2013. For the past three years I have worked on the Prison Show on KPFT with the Prison Show Gang. I have helped with production work, answering phones, helping with guests and promoting events for the show. I also have worked on and promoted on events for KPFT like the Dead Beat Ball and the Watermelon Dance Social. I have also volunteered my production services for other shows on KPFT in a Emergency for needed staff on the Execution Watch and Arab Voices. I have an Interdisciplinary Degree in Communication, Bachelor in Science from the University of Houston Downtown. Plus I have over 31 years of broadcasting experience. While attending the University of Houston Main Campus and University of Houston Downtown I have learned to work with people from diverse backgrounds. While serving on the LSB I have worked with the board on improving relations with management, staff and listeners. As well as promoting ways to reach out to newer and younger listeners that have not heard about KPFT or the other Pacifica stations. We also need to raise the donations for KPFT and help keep Pacifica in the black and not in the red. I believe in KPFT and I want to see this station to continue to serve the listeners and the community as a whole. With my knowledge and experience I hope to continue to serve on the LSB. I want to see KPFT grow more in the 21st century. I have also worked with programming in teleconferences with other Pacifica stations on how to solve programming, broadcasting problems and how to reach to proper listeners and work on improving donations and reaching out to newer and younger audiences. We need to improve to reach out to these kind of listeners to Pacifica can continue to grow and improve donations. Look forward to serving on the LSB and putting my knowledge and work experience to continue to serve KPFT and the listeners.

Yours,

Mike A. Lewis.
