Listener Candidate for the WPFW Local Station Board
I try to live by the mantra "If it is to be, Change begins with me." I believe that everyone has a voice , deserves to be heard and no question is a stupid question. Lastly, "Change", though challenging at times, is necessary for growth...the growth of mind/body/soul, growth of the community, growth of finances, growth of love, etc.
Answers to Candidate Questionnaire
1. What experience, connections, skills or traits would you bring to the local station board to advance the station's mission?
Health care knowledge based upon over 30 years civilian and military nursing. Leadership experience based upon aforementioned and volunteer positions with AARP, NAACP. I have basic computer skills with common software with an ability to troubleshoot general technical problems.
2. What do you appreciate and value in the station's current operations?
I appreciate the variety. The breadth and depth of knowledge that is provided on a "daily" basis be it via the musiic focused or talk focused programming.
3. What would you like to see improved or changed in the station's current operations?
I would like to suggest a segment called "Justice and the Church". The time is now for the church to return to being active in the movement without jeopardizing any "Faith Based Initative" funding. May be like balancing a seesaw, but could be worth a try.
4. Describe what you anticipate would be your top three priorities or areas of focus if you were elected to the local station board.
  1- Financial stability 2- Relavancy 3- Independance.
5. Sustainability is an important part of any nonprofit operation. What are your thoughts on how the board can help to improve the station's financial footing?
Expand fundraising outreach. Churches have an HBCU Sunday because supporting our historically Black colleges and universities is so very important and the finacial need is astronomical. Likewise, for WPFW/Pacifica. Perhaps WPFW leadership can tour the local churches and educate the membership about the Jewel the DMV has in WPFW. People can't be expected to financially support what they don't know.
6. Is there anything else you would like prospective voters to know?
I am an ordinary, everyday person, willing to help in whatever way I can while I am still on this earth.
