Staff Candidate for the WPFW Local Station Board
Statement
Greetings, my name is Ambrose I. Lane, Jr. I am currently the host of WPFW's "To The East," a program about the DC communities East Of The River (Wards 7 & 8). I am a well known community leader. I am also the son of legendary 35 year WPFW host Ambrose I. Lane, Sr. Years ago, I was also the host and producer of WPFW's "Underground Sound," DC's first progressive hip-hop program (as the "X-Man"), and was the first to expose DC to groups like The Roots and The Fugees, who went on to national fame. I certainly see WPFW as the home for Jazz and Justice as well as a rich diversity of music genres, progressive political programming, and would continue that movement. I am also very experienced in board development and executive leadership, having led or helped a number of DC organizations. I currently am chair and founder of the Health Alliance Network, DC's largest community-based health advocacy organization, advocating for health justice, equity, policy and better health outcomes for marginalized communities of color. I have also founded, served as a board member and written the bylaws for several DC organizations such as the DC Youth Council, the DC Alliance of Youth Advocates and others, and currently serve on the Boards of other organizations. I was a two term Commissioner on the Mayor's Commission on Health Equity and was recently selected to serve on the Mayor's Commission on Poverty (Council confirmation in process). My experiences will certainly add to the needs of WPFW. I wish to thank you for your interest in voting and I am asking for your vote.
