Listener Candidate
for the KPFK Local Station Board
Statement
My name is Matt Sedillo and I am running for the local KPFK station board on the grassroots radio coalition slate. I am a poet by trade and invite anyone unfamiliar with my work to do a quick internet search and you will come to find that I do not mince words. I will cut straight to the chase.

All across the world thousands of children starve to death everyday in countries exporting food. The three richest Americans hold more wealth than the bottom 50% of the country. A handful of corporations are endangering the future of life on this planet. The United States of America is a police state and a war machine. It cages more human beings than any nation on the planet. It threatens war with nations all across the world, particularly those with large oil reserves. The Trump administration has built concentration camps for children. Children are dying in these camps. This is neither conspiracy nor exaggeration. It is a simple statement of fact. History will not absolve our inaction. We must struggle against these realities. Struggle requires organization and organization requires information. In this vein we must have a better, clearer KPFK.

We need a KPFK that does not shy away from the current realities. We need a KPFK that does not normalize these realities. We need to resist the corporate model that has been erroneously pushed in recent years in the name of streamlining or growth or increasing reach.

The truth is KPFK will grow when it presents itself as a consistent and real alternative to corporate/war machine news. A radio station that highlights the realities stated above on a consistent basis will grow because it will truly stand alone as everyday our ears are drowning in a sea of war and graft here in the belly of the beast. These times call for clarity and decisiveness not the cowardice and complicity that has characterized much of the recent history of the station.

If and when elected I intend to take the steps necessary and work with other members of the grassroots radio coalition to reach out to the people who are demanding that KPFK live up not only to the Pacifica mission but what these times demand of a radio station that truly serves the people.

Power to the people.
