Our Blog

My name is Chuck Anderson. I am the former president of the O.C. Chapter ACLU, past Chair of the O.C. Peace and Freedom Party, Vice President, Elders Council, Alianza Indigena, organizer and cofounder with 14 plus years antiwar and human rights weekly street corner protesting. I am past president of O.C. Veterans for Peace, past president of The Tustin Municipal Employee Association and former Board member of O.C. Unitarian Church. I am a volunteer for Change Links, Turning The Tide, KPFK, The World Can’t Wait, member of NAACP, NLG, CAIR, ARA, AL AWDA, Viva Palestinia, KPFK Outreach Committee, a volunteer for ANSWER Los Angeles. I am a Pan Africanist, Bolivarian and support open borders, open arms and open hearts for all immigrants. I fully support Spanish language programming. An energetic effort at KPFK must be made to return full representation of the African American community. Let’s strive for a just representation of youth, homeless, immigrant and poor working people on KPFK airways. At present, I an an elected member of KPFK LSB & running for re-election.

Our station has deviated to medical quackery, crystal ball divining, snake oil and an abundance of spiritual religious programming with an absence of educational and political programming. Some LSB members are attempting to syndicate Pacifica programming like National Public Radio with generic topics and music. Why has the Lew Hill dream been deferred? Why has The Mission Statement been trashed? What has happened to the KPFK news broadcasting? Please read and reread the Pacifica Mission Statement. We have no or little coverage of community events and reporting. Let’s stand against police brutality, murders & support the incarcerated.

I am for socialism. Ownership of the tremendous productive wealth built by the hundreds of millions of workers and must not remain in the vaults of a privileged few. We must build our ideas into practice. I’m for the student, labor, women’s lesbian/gay/bi/trans,queer, antiwar and anti-racists, pro-immigrant , Black Lives Matter & Union movements. Optional Questions (push the plus sign to see the answers)

In what ways are the station moving in a positive direction, that you would want to continue or perhaps improve?
We have elected a new General Manager. She is a well known community activist as well as a long time veteran of KPFK & Pacifica governance activities. Her experience will lead KPFK into a recovery of the financial bankruptcy that was our destination due to mismanagement by pervious Pacifica and local station management. We have an over abundance of highly paid staff and programmers.

Many of them are “cronies” hired by friends and family who are unproductive. I propose that all programmers should be unpaid volunteers. Paid staff should only be technical and management employees. We need to severely cut the budget and reduce the horrible and too often fund drives while introducing fresh new talent, educational and youth programs representing our community of diverse cultures. KPFK needs a serious house cleaning or our ship will soon sink. We urgently need our station listeners to participate in all KPFK activities.

In what ways are the station moving in a negative direction, that you would want to stop or change? What changes would you work for?
No Response.

What key experience, connections, skills or traits would you bring to the Local Station Board to advance the station’s mission?
I have been a elected LSB member for the past five years. I am bilingual & bicultural, English/Spanish. If you read my candidate statement & brief biography you will see that I am experienced and qualified to continue to serve on the Local Station Board. I am involved with many justice organizations.

What ideas do you have for helping the station and the Pacifica Foundation meet the financial challenges currently being faced?
We need a house cleaning of Paid programmers and some unproductive staff. Most positions can be done by volunteers except for management & technical staff. We can have less fund drives with no costly premiums. We are not an info commercial station.

We should not continue to promote “snake oil” and miracle potions to raise funds or make outlandish medical claims to raise funds. It is not necessary to offer expensive premiums.
