Our Blog

I am running for the LSB because I have been a listener- sponsor for nearly 15 years and I am troubled by the direction the station’s programming has been taking over the last several years. My beloved KPFK has been taken to some right leaning direction and I fear if we do not get involved and do something now then it will not be long before the station begins taking corporate funding and airing commercials and that will be the final nail in the coffin for this lone progressive voice in the wilderness. I have been a union carpenter for over 25 years, an activist, and an outspoken advocate for women’s rights, equal rights, the poor and elderly of our community! I have stood up for workers and paid for doing so yet I have always come back time and time again to keep abusive employers for allowing abuse in the workplace. I am a fight, I am Latino, I am a progressive, and I am running as a candidate for your local station board — VOTE FOR ME TO REPRESENT YOU!

Optional Questions

In what ways are the station moving in a positive direction, that you would want to continue or perhaps improve?
The station’s continued support of Spanish language is great but I would like to see more representation and at the higher listener times of the day like morning or afternoon commute times.

In what ways are the station moving in a negative direction, that you would want to stop or change? What changes would you work for?
In the late afternoon commute there is a program that is on that has been going a little too conservative and for this reason I am running to do what I can to reign in this corporate turning program known by its host as Ian Masters. This we do not need and could use this time slot for a more progressive show.

What key experience, connections, skills or traits would you bring to the Local Station Board to advance the station's mission?
My advocacy for workers and using my voice and fearless nature has built a strength and trait that could serve me well as a member of the LSB. I am involved as a polling inspector because I believe it is important to be involved in important issues which affect us all in our everyday lives.

What ideas do you have for helping the station and the Pacifica Foundation meet the financial challenges currently being faced?
Every dollar spent needs to be accounted for and spending scrutinized. I will be vigilant in looking at expenditures and fight to make sure that we spend only at what needs to be and work towards solutions to improve the station in other ways.

So, what do you think ?
