RE: Deb Shafto Fair Campaign Provision Violation
On September 18th, it was brought to my attention via email that LSB Election Listener Candidate Deb Shafto was speaking live on the air. After listening to the KPFT archive at kpft.org/archive, I was able to confirm that Deb co-hosted a 30-minute program called Thresholds. This is a violation of the 2015 Fair Campaign Provisions, Number 1, which states that no “air time be made available to some Listener-Sponsor Delegate candidates but not to others.” And Number 2: “All candidates for election as a Listener-Sponsor Delegate shall be given equal opportunity for equal air time, which air time shall include time for (1) a statement by the candidate and (2) a question and answer period with call in listeners.” Because not all candidates were allowed equal opportunity to host the show and because the air time used was neither an official candidate statement nor a candidate forum, it is concluded the 2015 Fair Campaign Provisions were violated by both Deb Shafto and George Reiter, host of Thresholds.
Candidate Deb Shafto: Decrease in Allotted Airtime. Thirty Candidate carts for Deb Shafto will not be played during the election period (one for each minute of the violation).
Staff George Reiter, Thresholds: Warning. The Staff member has been WARNED against a repeated violation via email, and threatened with loss of air-time.
