Our Blog

My name is Don Williams. I am running as a candidate to become a member of WPFW’s local station board.

I am retiring from IT after over 45 years, but I am not retiring from working. I am a comedian and I produce and direct theater. I was a volunteer at WPFW from 1977 to 1984. I was the second music director for WPFW and I hosted a jazz show. Byron Morris originated the Bright Moments on WPFW. I would sub for him and when he decided to give the show up, he asked if I wanted to continue the show under Bright Moments or change the name. I decided to keep the name and hosted the show for five years.

In the seven years as a volunteer, I saw what worked and what did not work. I am running because I believe that WPFW had tremendous potential in that it can provide a great service to the community. I believe in working as a team player and respecting people.
There are various areas that I am interested in. The station needs to improve it’s relationship with the community. The station needs more fund raisers and focus more on all economic issues that directly effects the station’s survival. WPFW needs a permanent location.

I spend seven years at the station as a volunteer. I saw what worked and what did not work. I connect to the community by way of arts, politics, and people.

What ideas do you have for helping the station and the Pacifica Foundation meet the financial challenges currently being faced?
More fund raisers. Produce effective on air promos. Make the financial issues top priority. Increase the volunteer base to provide support for the staff. With people available to work on projects this increases the chance for success.
