for the KPFA Local Station Board
Statement
I am running for KPFA Local Station Board on the Rescue Pacifica slate and ask KPFA listeners to vote for me and the rest of the Rescue Pacifica team. Please visit https://rescuepacifica.net

As a SFSU professor, I developed AMED Studies with courses, such as Islamophobia, civil liberties; gender and modernity; Palestine; Border: Palestine and Mexico; and Colonialism, Imperialism and Resistance. Was faculty advisor to General Union of Palestinian Students, Muslim Student Association and Muslim Women’s Studies Association. I co-created Edward Said Scholarship and established the collaborative MOU agreement with An-Najah National University, the first and only agreement SFSU has with any site in Arab and Muslim communities worldwide. I’ve developed the concept, Open classrooms, attended internationally to which everyone is welcomed as a space for intergenerational conversations between students and elder veterans of the 1960s, about the past and present and provide direction to future social change.
As a scholar-activist committed to collective work, I co-founded California Scholars for Academic Freedom; Palestine, Arab and Muslim (PAM) Caucus of California Faculty Association; US Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel, Feminists for Justice in and for Palestine of the National Women’s Studies Association, and the Institute for the Critical Study of Zionism. I am honored to serve on Board of Advisors of National Students for Justice in Palestine. I’ve joined our community to support Idle No More, Justice for Michael Brown, the Movement for Black Lives, Standing Rock, and Mauna Kea. I co-organized several Palestine delegations, including Indigenous and Women of Color Feminist Delegation, 2016 US Prisoner Solidarity, Labor and Academic Delegation, and 2018 (twice), 2019, and 2022 Teaching Palestine.

I taught at Yale University; Hunter College; American University in Cairo; NYU, and Birzeit University’s Institute for Women’s Studies. As the first director of Center for Arab American Studies at University of Michigan-Dearborn, I initiated/developed projects: Mapping Arab Diasporas, Intellectual and Pedagogical Institute in American and Arab American Studies for Palestinian/US Graduate Students in collaboration with Al-Quds University; Picturing Arabs and Muslims Film Series, and Arab and Arab American Writers Series.

I published over 80 articles, book chapters, anthologies and co-authored books that appeared in Arabic, English, Farsi, French, German, Italian and Spanish in academic journals (Feminist Studies; Women’s Studies Quarterly; International Feminist Journal of Politics; Gender and Society; Radical History Review; Peace Review; and Journal of Women’s History); anthologies (This Bridge We Call Home; New World Coming: The 1960s and Shaping of Global Consciousness; Local Actions: Cultural Activism, Power and Public Life in America; Shifting Borders: American in the Middle East/North Africa; We Will Not Be Silenced; Righting Injustice: The Case for Academic Boycott of Israel; With Stones in Our Hands: Reflections on Racism, Muslims and Empire; and Return to the Source); and social media posts newspapers and magazines. As a journalist based at UN Headquarters for 10 years, I wrote for many international publications. For a partial list of publications: https://sfsu.academia.edu/RababAbdulhadi
