Listener Candidate for the KPFA Local Station Board
Statement
We are in a dangerous time. We are surrounded by corporate propaganda which has corrupted every single institution in our country. Independent media is critical to society, now more than ever. They are the only ones fighting against the corruption and we must do everything we can to protect the few remaining institutions left. In a functioning society, media is supposed to be the shield against corruption, both public & private and that third worst kind: when they come together.
Answers to Candidate Questionnaire
1. What experience, connections, skills or traits would you bring to the local station board to advance the station's mission?
I am a professional software architect and amateur policy architect. I have developed over 200 apps that span the range of web apps, mobile apps and backend services. I am also on the board of Our Revolution East Bay, Public Banking East Bay & staffer/architect at Progressive Coders Network (former CodersForSanders)
2. What do you appreciate and value in the station's current operations?
I love how we use our resources and facilities to help train the next generation. I would love to help expand that if possible.
3. What would you like to see improved or changed in the station's current operations?
I am concerned that the Pacifica network uses money donated by KPFA listeners for stations that are not self sustaining.. I support efforts to help other stations improve their programming. Without that financial drain, KPFA will be able to use its resources to continue to grow technologically and expand as a powerful international news source.
4. Describe what you anticipate would be your top three priorities or areas of focus if you were elected to the local station board.
  1. Organize the site so it is easy to navigate to what you are looking for
2. Organize the podcast and develop processes to help us identify which podcasts to aid with our full resources
3. Expand our donor base with monthly donors. This will require us to expand our listenership on all delivery types (i.e. radio, podcast, youtube streams, etc)
5. Sustainability is an important part of any nonprofit operation. What are your thoughts on how the board can help to improve the station's financial footing?
I want to work with others in a powerful membership effort supported by board members using technological innovation to double KPFA's membership.
6. Is there anything else you would like prospective voters to know?
I appreciate that KPFA’s diverse management team uses listener data, donation information, social media communications, surveys and community engagement with progressive leaders and organizations when making programming decisions in alignment with the KPFA mission.
