Listener Candidate for the WBAI Local Station Board
Statement
My name is John Hoffman and I grew up in Brooklyn listening to WBAI and have lived in NYC most of my life. When I was young, WBAI was the voice that I listened to and sought out and was my friend.
While I live in Chicago, I still listen to WBAI frequently, and am respectful of its place in my life. As a result, I feel that I should give my time and efforts to a station that helped radicalize me and helped make me the unique person I am today.

I am smart enough to know that my abilities are geared primarily towards Finance: budget, forecasting and reading Income Statements. I also feel that I am creative enough in mind and spirit to play a role in restoring WBAI to its independent roots, free of dependence on endless fundraising, to the detriment of its unique, diverse important programming, which is what draws us all to this station.

On Finance:

• I create annual budgets in excess of $200 million
• I monitor the performance of actual results vs. budget
• I am an expert in the use of Excel spreadsheets and the creation of reports to derive additional insights into a variety of Finance issues and opportunities which I feel would be of benefit to the station.

On Insights:

• Expert critical thinker
• I am very creative and will >always< have creative ideas
• I am well versed in the discipline and rigor required to move an organization forward
• I will always be respectful and supportive of artists and what they mean to the community versus the role I might play for the station.

On Being a Board Member:

• I served on the Board of my condo Association for four years
• I was the President of the Board for one year
• I have expert level skills/understanding on Robert’s Rules of Order
• I have participated in audits of Finances for a non-profit entity

While this may seem very dry, I am very interested in encouraging the improbable, very interested in nurturing and growing this station.

I am reaching the end of my work career and want to bring my talents and experiences to WBAI. While I live in Chicago, I have many interests in NYC and travel there frequently and will accommodate my travel to meet the Board Meeting requirements.

I hope to work behind the scenes to lay a foundation for growth and stability. From there, true quality can emerge. I feel that is my role for WBAI and the opportunity that I bring today. I hope my experience that I have outlined is sufficient for you to vote for me, and I ask for your vote today.

I urge you to look favorably upon my candidacy, and further, to consider the possibilities that I could bring to the station that I love.

If you have questions about my candidacy, I encourage you to reach out to me directly at bxbkqu@gmail.com
