Listener Candidate for the KPFK Local Station Board
Statement
I am encouraged to run again as we still have so very much to do. WE must move KPFK forward and we must all evolve so we can rebuild our community. The key words to do this is to inspire one another and be compassionate. I plan to offer my best effort and will continue to be of service.
Answers to Candidate Questionnaire
1. What experience, connections, skills or traits would you bring to the local station board to advance the station's mission?
I am a community organizer. I volunteer for our community locally and globally. I am not shy to ask for resources and I know how to be resourceful. I was employed at the LA PhilHarmonic subscriptions offices for 6 years as assistant manager. Customer service is key in communicating with listeners and supporters.
2. What do you appreciate and value in the station's current operations?
Our resilience. KPFK has weathered many stormy efforts to dismantle, take it down and under. We must continue to stand for equity, racial & social justice. I have witnessed our resolve and participated in meetings that have improved, perhaps we can end this division.
3. What would you like to see improved or changed in the station's current operations?
Fundraise with events and not as many fundraisers on the radio. Establish a trusting space to build a radio station that is part of the informative source that the larger community can rely on and continue to depend on. Integrate technology and social media moving everyone forward all ages & honoring all cultures, many languages...
4. Describe what you anticipate would be your top three priorities or areas of focus if you were elected to the local station board.
Cultural representation of our beautiful tapestry of listeners and supporters. Proper cultural representation would yield equity. Financial security for KPFK's future for all generations to come.
5. Sustainability is an important part of any nonprofit operation. What are your thoughts on how the board can help to improve the station's financial footing?
Creative, fun and informative events - opportunities for our listeners and supporters to help guide us.We need more transparency and accountability in all directions, for and from Staff and for and from our KPFK Board. We should listen to our volunteers and have a retreat to establish and maintain our relationships with them.
6. Is there anything else you would like prospective voters to know?
I am Quechua and Mayo, Indigenous. i simply want to be a better relative. I am available to roll up my selves and get to work. Let's mediate so we can accomplish beautiful plans to evolve and re-imagine a healthy community for everyone.
