Listener Candidate for the KPFT Local Station Board
Statement
Current member of the station board and have served for the past five years. Listener and supporter of KPFT 90.1 FM since its founding in 1970. I became more involved with station operations in 2007. Among those activities are volunteering during fund drives, attending outreach events( MLK Parade, Earth Day, Art Car Parade, etc). Have also helped to maintain the building, cleaning, refinishing furniture, repairing vacuum cleaner, building an organic garden in the back yard mowing, recycling, and providing security. Have served on the local station board for the past five years. Engineered many shows including Arab Voices, Jazz Latino, Execution Watch, Coming to America, Progressive Forum, and others. Know and have good relationships with most programmers. My wide range of service reflects upon my understandings for the need for KPFT to prevail as a radio station for peace. Please make me your #1 choice to return me to the Station Board.
Answers to Candidate Questionnaire
1. What experience, connections, skills or traits would you bring to the local station board to advance the station's mission?
Have a good working relationship with most of the programmers which has served to build comraderie and team spirit. Have extensive knowledge of the affairs and goings on, e.g. the histoy of the station, what has worked, what has not, an what has thwarted the Pacifica mission,
2. What do you appreciate and value in the station's current operations?
We have a manager who has kept the station on the air despite being impeded by the Covid epidemic and the closed condition of the station building. As to the programing changes that went into effect on May 25, the manager should have consulted with he station board before activating the changes.
3. What would you like to see improved or changed in the station's current operations?
KPFT needs a new physical base for operations.I serve on that committee to prepare for that including sale of our current building and purchase of another.
4. Describe what you anticipate would be your top three priorities or areas of focus if you were elected to the local station board.
We need to get into a new building and throw several large parties using them as a building campaign and a celebration of KPFT survival and its new home.
5. Sustainability is an important part of any nonprofit operation. What are your thoughts on how the board can help to improve the station's financial footing?
We need to reach out to more communities and expose the potential for KPFT to be a forum for community.
6. Is there anything else you would like prospective voters to know?
I am a true heart. There has been much dysfunction on the Board but as a current board member I feel that we are now on a path of moving past that redundancy.
