Listener Candidate for the KPFK Local Station Board
Statement
An old friend edited some of Jerry Bruckheimer's propaganda tripe. The US Navy set up recruiting tables in the theater lobby of 'Top Gun', and US Navy recruiting jumped 30% that year.
The LAPD disavowed the film "Colors" at the last moment, Increasing the distribution of it's telegraphed* message. The Deal: we give you $tons of free production value & you sell our budgets to the taxpayers.
The negative message is the point of most of Hollywood's crap; how many of us started dressing like Darth rather than wearing a white pullover in 1978? Hiding in the shadows is the good guy ?
How many children watch 50 hours a week of gun entertainment, just to get taken out by the police because they twisted their bread to look like a pistol?
Institutionalized futility and hopelessness + a violent solution to every human circumstance was the product of Euripides' 'theater' and Homer's epics.... And the product of American media. See Simone Weil's 'The Iliad or Poem of Force'
*Telegraphing is film speak for a subliminally delivered image.

Why has our KPFK-FM radio, LA's source of alternative political analysis and the voice of people otherwise frozen out of for-profit media, the go-to place for peculiar music.... become one long info-commercial?

KPFK makes small mention of the hundreds of Volunteer Programmers in the station who get zero wage, the station doesn't buy them a restaurant lunch or pay them to attend Skill Growth Workshops.

They don't get free parking unless a "Staff" member forgot to show up.

They're not "Professionals", They don't get ASKED about anything.

They get Told ...., up until their last day, when they show up at the station and don't get to go on ....,

And surprise, "Staff" didn't have the guts to even tell them that their time slot has been moved A THIRD TIME or "that show has been replaced".

WWII C.O.* Lewis Hill's original design for Pacifica was that broadcast Voices ran the radio, not paid Mercenaries. When I mentioned the names of the 7 Conscientious Objectors I had known, the men at my American Legion Post 8 said they did not have that courage.

THIS station is not Community radio, Not NPR nor the CPB. Pacifica is an EDUCATIONAL CORPORATION, not built around infomercials pushing our listeners needs or wants, and not our Staff's "Good Fashion Sense", resume Bling, or anyone's "Ride".

KPFK employs a few necessary people not to use the microphone, but to facilitate the production of good Volunteer radio. Let's plug the money buckets.

And we must always remember; Transparency and Ignore-ance are VERBS, not adjectives.

Answers to Candidate Questionnaire
1. What experience, connections, skills or traits would you bring to the local station board to advance the station's mission?
Lost a lot of money in film production and electric car design
2. What do you appreciate and value in the station's current operations?
Midnight to 6AM, four mornings a week
3. What would you like to see improved or changed in the station's current operations?
Rip out all the 10+ separate decades old Freon-leaking remote rooftop air conditioning units & they're hopeless non-functional ducting and install a Robur water-circulating heat pump in a single parking space. I will personally take each and every unit completely apart in a legal fashion, and lower the bits to the ground, saving $thousands in crane time.
4. Describe what you anticipate would be your top three priorities or areas of focus if you were elected to the local station board.
  1) Pay off the deadly vulture mortgage against our 190-foot transmitter tower and broadcast real estate. 2) Re-design our programing to integrate education. 3) Create a SCA side-band broadcast computer-browser for student's real-time response, As I Have An OK from a FCC Commissioner to try.
5. Sustainability is an important part of any nonprofit operation. What are your thoughts on how the board can help to improve the station's financial footing?
WPFW, KPFT and many of our affiliates run 24/7 on half of the number of paid staff KPFK has.
Half the world hitch-hikes to Hollywood, desperate to use their talent. Say what, Kemosabe?
6. Is there anything else you would like prospective voters to know?
Months and months of meetings in my house hashed out our Pacifica Radio by-laws. Please read and grasp them.
