Listener Candidate for the KPFK Local Station Board
Like all of us, I care deeply about the service KPFK provides to the LA area. Like all of us running to serve on the board, I would like to contribute to the sound governance and financial management of our shared community resource.

Enabling an organization to make consistent progress towards its mission statement is a Board’s core responsibility. I have witnessed both effective and ineffective board operations (as a staff member and as a board member) and I will constantly strive to participate in board discussions and help make decisions as collaborative part of a whole.

I have spent the last 20 years in LA working in variety of roles in social sector programming. I have worked as a policy researcher at UCLA, manager of a corporate philanthropy, a monitoring and evaluation expert for the US Department of State and the Ukrainian Ministry of Health, and am currently employed as the head of partnerships and operations for a technology firm that creates economic indices in emerging markets. An important constant in my varied experience is the identification of synergies amongst diverse stakeholders and the development of collaborative and effective solutions.
Answers to Candidate Questionnaire
1. What experience, connections, skills or traits would you bring to the local station board to advance the station's mission?
An open mind, coalition building, stakeholder engagement, program evaluation, fundraising, grant making, and operations experience.
2. What do you appreciate and value in the station's current operations?
The diversity in programming and coverage of the multitude of issues that affect our community.
3. What would you like to see improved or changed in the station's current operations?
  Unknown at this time.
4. Describe what you anticipate would be your top three priorities or areas of focus if you were elected to the local station board.
The promotion of good governance and oversight; mission alignment; fundraising strategy.
5. Sustainability is an important part of any nonprofit operation. What are your thoughts on how the board can help to improve the station's financial footing?
Competition is fierce for unrestricted funding and recurring revenue in the non-profit space. I have worked on both sides of the table (as a fund seeker and a fund maker) and eager to contribute knowledge gained from those experiences.
6. Is there anything else you would like prospective voters to know?
Of course I have my favorite programs at KPFK but my contribution would not be in the form of promotion of a specific topic or agenda. It would be in the promotion of good governance and oversight.
