Staff Candidate for the KPFK Local Station Board
Statement
I have extensive knowledge in radio and Television, prior to KPFK, I worked at Radiovisa 830am, Univision, and NBC along with many other independent films and radio shows, I have also been at KPFK for many years, so I have a good understanding of our strengths and weaknesses. I believe it’s time we move KPFK forward and let the younger generations at KPFK get a chance to lead this amazing radio station that can be more than just a radio station.
Answers to Candidate Questionnaire
1. What experience, connections, skills or traits would you bring to the local station board to advance the station's mission?
I am a multimedia producer with experience in television and radio production, I also host my own show on KPFK called Contragolpe that airs Wednesday nights at 9:30PM. I have worked in several departments at KPFK during my tenure so I know exactly what the different areas need the most. My knowledge of working at KPFK makes me a great candidate.
2. What do you appreciate and value in the station's current operations?
I appreciate and value KPFK as one of the very last stations that still operates like a real public radio station, I also appreciate that KPFK provides a platform for the Native American community to express themselves and be heard.

3. What would you like to see improved or changed in the station's current operations?
Programming needs to improve but for that to happen we first need to invest in up-to-date equipment, we still use very old computers that barely work, most of our studios do not work. With my knowledge and skills, I will make sure that this is one of my top priorities at KPFK.
4. Describe what you anticipate would be your top three priorities or areas of focus if you were elected to the local station board.
If elected I will prioritize the following:

1. Modernize our equipment

2. Incorporate visual component to our operations

3. Train programmers and reporters on how to produce video content for Pacifica radio TV’s YouTube channel.
5. Sustainability is an important part of any nonprofit operation. What are your thoughts on how the board can help to improve the station's financial footing?
Creating a visual department will expand the possibilities for KPFK to generate more income in many ways that will change the game.
6. Is there anything else you would like prospective voters to know?
If elected I will help organize fundraiser for KPFK, in the past a group of us put on very successful events with programmer Gregorio Luke along with evening programmers.
