My name is Edward Fakes. I was born in Los Banos, CA and my father died when I was two yrs old.
My Mother and us nine children moved up and down Central California. Being the youngest, I was raised mostly by my older sisters and brothers.
About ten years ago I met a Lady, who constantly listens to Pacifica KPFK 90.7 FM. I then learned to listen by osmosis.
I opened my eyes to all the politics behind the "nice" front we're presented.
Enlisted at seventeen years of age, I served in the Navy, stationed in Pearl Harbor. My discharge papers
were given to me the day my ship left for Vietnam - probably the reason I'm still alive today.
Without graduating from High School, the "best" job I could find was in the refineries... The pay was
good but I realized much too late how I exchanged my health for "a pocket full of change". I gave the
best years of my life ( 30+) unaware of what choices and influences dictate what happens in our lives.
Still, I raised two boys and now have twin granddaughters from one of them. My other Son unmarried without children, is an elementary school teacher and travels all over the world every chance he gets.
I want to be with good forces that will guarantee that Pacifica KPFK 90.7 FM will continue to open the eyes and the hearts of those who want a world that works for all of us, not just for the privileged few.
I want to bring my living experience to the KPFK Board and collectively work with all to serve the best needs of the Station.
