Tamar Michai Freeman (but uses her middle name Michai) was born in New York City and moved to Berkeley, CA, in 1989 to attend the University of California at Berkeley. Michai earned a Bachelor's in Middle Eastern Studies in 1996 from the University of California and a Master's in Holistic Studies from John F. Kennedy University in 2009. Michai was Chair of the Commission on Disability and ran for Berkeley City Council in 2022. Michai Freeman works at the Center for Independent Living in Berkeley as a Systems Change Advocate, where she assists people with disabilities and organizations in improving access and policies for greater community inclusion and adherence to disability civil rights. She is running with Rescue Pacifica for more democratic processes in programming decisions and transparency for listeners and staff.
