My name is Jeff Silberman and I am an entertainment attorney with King, Holmes, Paterno & Soriano and a literary agent with Folio Literary Management. I am also a former Social Services Commissioner for the City of Santa Monica, an advisory body that identifies needs and priorities, evaluates programs, and addresses fiscal concerns for a wide range of social services designed to empower and support diverse communities.
My work involves empowering innovative thinking to bring cultural, educational, and informational enrichment to the public, understanding and reconciling diverse and sometimes competing viewpoints, overcoming obstacles, and providing solutions where creative vision and financial reality can meet.
Despite the best of intentions, over the past decade strategies pursued by the Board have, unfortunately, neither cultivated cutting edge signature programming, grown KPFK's audience, or maintained financial sustainability. Our listenership and revenue is half what it was in 2008.
KPFK faces financial challenges and increasing indifference from those its programming used to engage and mobilize. The plain truth is KPFK is not a leading voice or a destination for those seeking vital information and cultural expression they cannot get elsewhere.
We must change that.
