Listener Candidate
for the KPFK Local Station Board
500 words? 500 years plus and today we continue to merely survive and too few truly live beyond the labels, the categorization and too few even possess a remote idea of who we are, indigenous.

As an indigenous person and at my age of knowing better, I humbly recognize I continue to learn from the young ones. I see the gaps beyond generation, it’s a critical time for personal communication. It’s a critical time of how to be better relatives, that includes the four legged, winged, finned and creepy crawlers.

I am Mayo, Quechua, and I am adopted as a sister by Gloria Arellanes, Tongva Elder. I do not speak my native tongues and that is all telling of our historical and generational trauma. It didn’t break me and I am still here, resilient.

I am an AIM Member. I am employed by SoCal350 as a Community Engagement Director and as an Environmental Ambassador for 5Gyres. I volunteer for many social justice and environmental justice organizations and collectives.

I live in Venice and I have been surviving gentrifuckation. My resilience stands against the established hierarchal capitalist powers that insists I bow and yield to their perfunctory offerings of democracy.

I have witnessed the campaign of hate and fear to displace people and family from their homes in Venice, it was hyper-gentrified. The unconstitutional laws written as the gang injunctions ruined people’s lives and forever changed. The generation who couldn’t be themselves and hang out at the local park because they are black and brown. They couldn’t afford to be themselves, while other parks in other districts were afforded the right to be teens and hang out to socialize. The sick greed of removing elderly in their retirement from their homes because realtors are equal to vultures and make false friends of the senior citizens in our community. Snake oil selling practices convince the aunties and uncles to sell. It’s abuse of elders.

The current global conditions, America is not in good relations with other nations and people. WH administration cause for harm and distrust, they continue to plan and profit from the business of modern day genocide. The profits of marginalization, oppression, extractive industries, tech-no-logic businesses, and conditions of breaking spirit and mind, breaking hearts and tearing away imagination is the common challenge we all share no matter the language or educational degree.

We all have common need of clean air, nutritious food, a place to rest our head, and water. Water is life. There are water wars globally. Flint Michigan our black relatives and the Four Corners territories of indigenous relatives are without clean drinking water. KPFK, you have a water leak outside the building at the station in LA. You need to repair this, ASAP.

I am a water protector.

5. Sustainability is an important part of any nonprofit operation. What are your thoughts on how the board can help to improve the station's financial footing?
Review where we are at - create a financial time line that pulls KPFK ahead of bills and outthe red . As a single Mom on a shoe string budget, this can be done. Realistic budgeting and expense cutting, we must trim overhead.
6. Is there anything else you would like prospective voters to know?
From music industry to preschool teaching to assistant director at DMC NY based organization for LA Philharmonic and Hollywood Bowl venues: I have been the cat n the hat. I have bounced on a ball, balanced a cake on a rake with a fish in the dish. Everyone should share and delegate tasks to create creative solutions, as community.
Event production and organizing is the best when it is inclusive, not tokenizing and sharing mutual respect. We must build community with compassion and kindness.
