Listener Candidate
for the KPFT Local Station Board
I seek your vote for re-election to the local station board of KPFT. I have served on the local and national boards and numerous committees through the years and fought the good fight to bring more educational programs to the airwaves.

Financial transparency is essential to running any business but it has been difficult to get straight answers from the previous manager concerning the costs of programming. My first obstacle was getting the true cost of the BBC news and other programs through NPR, APM and other networks. It turned out that the BBC offered the previous manager all expense paid trips to foreign destinations to tour their facilities. Meanwhile we accrued massive debt but refused to give the the loyal workers that make this station function a raise from $10 an hour to $15.

After thirteen years without a review of said manager’s job performance we replaced him with Dr. Obedike Kama. He only lasted a few days until the Interim Executive Director fired him and reinstated previous manager for consulting.

I wonder sometimes if we are the Pacifica Network or the Good Ol’ Boy Network. Please re-elect me for financial transparency and a return to programming that enlightens and educates.
