Listener Candidate
for the KPFA Local Station Board
Statement
Hi I’m Donna Carter.

I am running for the KPFA Local Station Board. I am currently serving
on the LSB and as a Director on the Pacifica National Board (PNB), I have been an anti-war and anti-racism activist for many years, nurse contract negotiator and supporter of the California Nurses Association (CNA) and I bring this career and activism experience to my work for KPFA and Pacifica. I'm running on the Rescue-Pacifica ticket( www.RescuePacifica.net), and I urge you to vote for me and my "RP" running mates!
The LSB is KPFA's connection with the community. We can and should make changes to improve this connection. Currently, the LSB is meeting for only 2 hours every other month, with only half an hour for listener comments. There is very little time for management reports and questions from board members and listeners.
Reviewing the annual budget is the responsibility of the LSB, and one that
needs more attention. The LSB should take up the topic of increasing subscriber members, as it has declined for years. A town hall meeting on this and also improve KPFA's presence on social-media sites like You Tube and Twitter-X. It would be a step towards bringing KPFA to a broader audience. Some programmers are already sharing their programs via You tube and we need more to do so. We can address diversity by increasing more Spanish-Language programs.
Nationally, thePNB is working hard to make the network a more structured, organized, and responsive nonprofit. The foundation retains the ownership and the copywrite to the Pacifica Archives. These historical recordings of civil rights
leaders, writers, artists. etc. (many are unique to Pacifica) in fact are a national treasure.
Here in Berkeley, I am excited about our building reopening. It is the center of our radio community and it can be part of rebuilding our ranks with new volunteers, events and outreach.
So, there's is important work underway and much more to be done. I'm glad to be part of this effort, and I hope you will return to to the LSB, so I can continue to work for you. Visit wwwRescuePacifica.net.

I am a member of RescuePacifica. I support its efforts and advocacy to maintain KPFA
programs in alignment with the founding principles of Peace and Justice.

Thanks!
Donna Carter
