Staff Candidate
for the WBAI Local Station Board
Statement
Since January I have been a member of the Local Station Board of WBAI, filling the seat previously occupied by Ralph Poynter. I have tried to use my experience and abilities to help the station weather our current crisis and become a stronger and financially viable organization that can fulfill its mission, but I admit to being challenged by the deep divisions, personal animosity and dysfunction that characterizes the current LSB.

I have more than 30 years of experience both in business and in non-profit organizations. For more than 40 years, Patti and I ran a very successful music recording and publishing company which we sold in 2019. I am the founder of non-profit American For Responsible Technology, a national coalition of more than 140 organizations in 43 states. My wife Patti is the founder of the award-winning non-profit Grassroots Environmental Education where I serve as Chief Strategy Officer. I am a founding director of the advocacy group MusicAnswers, which seeks to protect the rights of music creators around the world. And I have been elected twelve times to the Board of Directors of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), where I chair the Legal Strategy Committee.

Patti and I are the hosts and producers of Green Street, an environmental health program heard every Friday on WBAI and syndicated on both Pacifica and PRX networks. We are grateful for the opportunity this gives us to provide a platform for some of the smartest scientists, public health professionals, authors and researchers to bring critical health and environmental information to the WBAI audience.

I’ve mostly avoided the politics of WBAI. I’m not part of any faction or group. I don’t carry any baggage from past battles. I come with an open mind, an ability to understand both sides and a strong desire to find and implement solutions and compromises that can bridge our differences and put the station on a solid foundation for the benefit of the listeners who depend on it.
