Myla Reson – KPFK – Candidate for PNB Staff and Volunteer Representative

I’m Myla Reson, running for reelection to represent staff and team volunteers on the PNB with Pacifica Forward candidates who are all committed to:

·  Building a national news and rapid-response reporting team

·  Expanding Pacifica onto new media and digital platforms

·  Developing new programming opportunities

·  Creating training and internship opportunities for youth and diverse communities

·  Preserving and expanding access to Pacifica’s extraordinary archives

·  Building partnerships with unions, community organizations, artists, musicians, and social justice movements

·  Strengthening fundraising and long-term financial sustainability

We also support direct democracy, member engagement, community surveys, transparent decision-making, and safe, productive board meetings focused on solving problems rather than creating them.

I’m proud to be endorsed by Maria Armoudian, Sharon Kyle, Ursula Rudenberg  and Alan Minsky.

Working together with national board directors from Pacifica sister stations and the Pacifica Affiliate Network we’ve ended three years of litigation with court approved bylaws that empower members to vote directly for the national and local station boards.

Our combined efforts have resulted in reducing Pacifica’s overall debt with greater financial accountability.

We’re rebuilding Pacifica’s national news with our 5 sister stations and 200 plus affiliates.

Personal Volunteer Highlights:

–> Since 2017, Along with Harvey Wasserman I co-produce and co-host California Solartopia/the Solartopia Show on KPFK – which is also available to the Pacifica Affiliate Network.

With Earth at the brink of Apocalypse, energy issues dominate California, the nation & the world. California Solartopia advocates for solar/wind/geothermal/battery solutions while breaking down our fiercest ecological battles — nuclear threats, defending wetlands, stopping plastics, fracking, data centers, and the political cronyism gutting nuclear safety.

–> Years of volunteering in the phone room – having conversations with hundreds of KPFK listener supporters.

–> Volunteered upstairs in the Pacifica Archives with Mark Torres and Edgar Toledo packaging and shipping historic archival recordings.

–> Early morning producer for Flip the Script with riKu Matsuda – from time to time booked guests for Connect the Dots with my dear friend Lila Garret – and had the honor of sitting in as producer on rare occasions for the Strategy Session with Antonio Gonzales, and Middle East in Focus with Don Bustani.

I see our news coverage as the crown jewel in our media project.

I’ve often said I was educated at the University of Pacifica Radio. That education began over 60 years ago when I was still in high school listening to the music of Paul Robeson and Pete Seegar on KPFK.

I owe a great debt of gratitude to the many thoughtful and provocative programmers who over the years helped me understand the importance of working together to make our world a better place. I support the editorial freedom of Pacifica Staff.

I ask that you vote for me, Myla Reson, as well as all candidates endorsed by Pacifica Forward for their records of service and teamwork.
